BEIJING, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday that his country will be able to continue with its current canola export regime.
In a news briefing with China's premier Li Keqiang, the Canadian prime minister said he hopes for a long term solution with China on their dispute over the safety of canola exports from Canada.
Li commented that China has no intention to keep its doors closed to imports but that the country's farmers and consumers are worried about imported pests.
The leader's comments come amid a dispute between China, the world's biggest buyer of canola, and Canada a top producer. China has said it would introduce a new safety limit on foreign matter in Canadian canola imports of 1 percent from the current 2.5 percent.
