Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Mobile Telecommunications, Mining and Oil Equipment Services & Distribution sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.98%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were SKY PLC (LON:SKYB), which rose 2.85% or 26.50 points to trade at 955.00 at the close. Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) added 1.76% or 59.00 points to end at 3410.00 and Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS) was up 1.38% or 90.00 points to 6625.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO), which lost 6.26% or 28.30 points to trade at 423.40 in late trade. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) declined 5.32% or 7.7500 points to end at 137.9500 and Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD) shed 4.91% or 11.3500 points to 219.6500.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1368 to 684 and 433 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for August delivery was up 0.83% or 10.50 to $1272.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.48% or 0.76 to hit $50.47 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.26% or 0.66 to trade at $51.85 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.32% to 1.4457, while EUR/GBP fell 0.31% to 0.7830.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.47% at 94.03.
