India shares lower at close of trade; Nifty 50 down 0.61%

Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.61%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.66%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were ICICI Bank Ltd . (NS:ICBK), which rose 2.84% or 5.25 points to trade at 190.05 at the close. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) added 2.38% or 14.65 points to end at 630.40 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) was up 1.83% or 2.85 points to 158.75 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC), which lost 10.16% or 21.95 points to trade at 194.10 in late trade. Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (NS:MRTI) declined 5.07% or 172.70 points to end at 3236.50 and Cairn India Limited (NS:CAIL) shed 4.73% or 5.85 points to 117.95.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd. (BO:ICBK) which rose 2.79% to 190.00, Reliance Industries Ltd (BO:RELI) which was up 1.69% to settle at 966.55 and ITC Ltd (BO:ITC) which gained 1.65% to close at 295.80.

The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 9.72% to 194.10 in late trade, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which lost 4.88% to settle at 3242.60 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which was down 4.21% to 91.10 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 806 to 589 and 71 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 449 fell and 341 advanced, while 35 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 7.81% to 20.1575.

In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was up 1.19% or 14.50 to $1234.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.37% or 0.12 to hit $32.66 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.14% or 0.05 to trade at $35.49 a barrel.

USD/INR was down 0.48% to 68.471, while EUR/INR fell 0.60% to 74.6840.

The US Dollar Index was up 0.06% at 98.19.
