Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Food Producers, Healthcare Equipment & Services and Automobiles & Parts sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Sports Direct International PLC (LON:SPD), which rose 4.60% or 16.000 points to trade at 364.000 at the close. Associated British Foods PLC (LON:ABF) added 3.19% or 104.00 points to end at 3369.00 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) was up 3.17% or 60.00 points to 1954.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which lost 4.89% or 7.4000 points to trade at 143.8000 in late trade. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) declined 4.33% or 21.70 points to end at 479.10 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) shed 3.85% or 74.500 points to 1863.000.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1185 to 987 and 476 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for June delivery was up 0.53% or 6.50 to $1228.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.12% or 1.23 to hit $38.16 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 2.62% or 1.07 to trade at $39.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.22% to 1.4287, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.7842.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.13% at 95.87.
