Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Electrical, Oil Equipment Services & Distribution and Household Goods & Home Construction sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Prudential PLC (LON:PRU), which rose 2.90% or 38.50 points to trade at 1365.00 at the close. Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN) added 2.50% or 3.5000 points to end at 143.2500 and SSE PLC (LON:SSE) was up 2.30% or 33.00 points to 1468.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included G4S PLC (LON:GFS), which lost 12.08% or 25.70 points to trade at 187.00 in late trade. Burberry Group PLC (LON:BRBY) declined 6.70% or 98.000 points to end at 1364.000 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 2.29% or 11.000 points to 469.500.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1097 to 989 and 457 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 0.62% or 7.80 to $1255.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 4.03% or 1.47 to hit $37.97 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 3.23% or 1.28 to trade at $40.93 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.08% to 1.4226, while EUR/GBP rose 0.03% to 0.7748.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.15% at 97.01.
