Investing.com – Germany equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Food & Beverages, Technology and Retail sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX rose 0.33% to hit a new 1-month high, while the MDAX index climbed 0.34%, and the TecDAX index added 0.81%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Infineon Technologies AG NA O.N. (DE:IFXGn), which rose 1.97% or 0.240 points to trade at 12.435 at the close. Adidas AG NA O.N. (DE:ADSGN) added 1.78% or 1.800 points to end at 103.150 and Henkel AG & Co Kgaa Vzo (DE:HNKG_p) was up 1.72% or 1.650 points to 97.750 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Deutsche Bank AG NA O.N. (DE:DBKGn), which lost 2.87% or 0.480 points to trade at 16.225 in late trade. K+S AG NA O.N. (DE:SDFGn) declined 2.02% or 0.435 points to end at 21.120 and Commerzbank AG O.N. (DE:CBKG) shed 1.98% or 0.160 points to 7.921.
The top performers on the MDAX were Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which rose 2.39% to 107.200, Suedzucker Mannheim Ochsenfurt AG (DE:SZUG) which was up 2.25% to settle at 15.225 and Kuka AG (DE:KU2G) which gained 2.14% to close at 90.620.
The worst performers were Leoni AG NA O.N. (DE:LEOGn) which was down 7.14% to 29.250 in late trade, Norma Group AG NA O.N. (DE:NOEJ) which lost 2.68% to settle at 48.720 and Aareal Bank AG (DE:ARLG) which was down 2.41% to 28.800 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Aixtron SE NA O.N. (DE:AIXGn) which rose 15.99% to 4.141, Pfeiffer Vacuum Technology O.N. (DE:PV) which was up 8.79% to settle at 100.950 and SMA Solar Technology AG (DE:S92G) which gained 6.04% to close at 42.150.
The worst performers were BB Biotech AG (DE:BIONn) which was down 3.03% to 208.000 in late trade, Nordex SE O.N. (DE:NDXG) which lost 3.01% to settle at 22.740 and PSI AG F.Pr.U.Sys. NA (DE:PSAGn) which was down 2.27% to 13.805 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 467 to 363 and 44 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was down 0.05% to 20.16.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.99% or 24.90 to $1223.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 3.09% or 1.28 to hit $40.17 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 2.44% or 1.02 to trade at $40.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.38% to 1.1174, while EUR/GBP rose 0.41% to 0.7927.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.50% at 96.15.
