Investing.com – India stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods, Consumer Durables and Metals sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.85%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.89%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (NS:AXBK), which rose 0.65% or 3.00 points to trade at 462.50 at the close. Meanwhile, Tech Mahindra Limited (NS:TEML) added 0.48% or 2.60 points to end at 542.60 and IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) was up 0.43% or 4.10 points to 946.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lupin Ltd (NS:LUPN), which fell 2.63% or 49.15 points to trade at 1821.65 at the close. Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) declined 2.59% or 6.10 points to end at 229.70 and Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (NS:BHEL) was down 2.57% or 4.45 points to 168.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which rose 0.70% to 462.40, NTPC Limited (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.56% to settle at 133.85 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 0.17% to close at 4627.75.
The worst performers were Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 2.65% to 229.55 in late trade, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. (BO:BHEL) which lost 2.48% to settle at 168.80 and Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which was down 2.23% to 92.15 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 913 to 548 and 12 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 524 fell and 278 advanced, while 6 ended unchanged.

The India Vix, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.66% to 16.0550.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.39% or 4.10 to $1049.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.44% or 0.57 to hit $40.52 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.88% or 0.80 to trade at $43.29 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.11% to 66.656, while EUR/INR fell 0.41% to 70.3860.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.32% at 100.36.
