Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 1.07%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 9.73% or 1.03 points to trade at 11.62 at the close. Endeavour Mining Corp (TO:EDV) added 8.40% or 1.830 points to end at 23.620 and HudBay Minerals Inc. (TO:HBM) was up 8.00% or 0.40 points to 5.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amaya Inc (TO:AYA), which lost 8.26% or 1.68 points to trade at 18.65 in late trade. Magna International Inc (TO:MG) declined 3.52% or 1.92 points to end at 52.63 and Linamar Corporation (TO:LNR) shed 2.93% or 1.59 points to 52.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 796 to 350 and 136 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 5.89% to 14.07.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 0.51% or 6.40 to $1263.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.90% or 0.45 to hit $50.39 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.47% or 0.24 to trade at $51.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.04% to 0.7620, while CAD/EUR rose 0.25% to 0.6941.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 97.89.
