Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electrical, Forestry & Paper and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which rose 4.84% or 350.00 points to trade at 7580.00 at the close. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) added 4.36% or 69.00 points to end at 1652.00 and EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ) was up 2.08% or 22.00 points to 1078.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS), which lost 1.88% or 4.50 points to trade at 234.50 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 1.39% or 27.00 points to end at 1919.00 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 1.36% or 10.00 points to 726.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1012 to 1000 and 453 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.52% or 19.05 to $1272.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.26% or 0.14 to hit $52.94 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.50% or 0.28 to trade at $55.70 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.53% to 1.2481, while EUR/GBP fell 0.37% to 0.8505.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.33% at 100.61.
