Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Food & Drug Retailers, Life Insurance/Assurance and Oil & Gas Producers sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.63%.
The best performers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Shire PLC (L:SHP), which rose 3.11% or 136.00 points to trade at 4511.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (L:TSCO) added 2.50% or 4.8000 points to end at 196.9500 and Prudential PLC (L:PRU) was up 2.46% or 36.50 points to 1523.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Weir Group PLC (L:WEIR), which fell 6.28% or 78.00 points to trade at 1164.00 at the close. GKN PLC (L:GKN) declined 3.64% or 10.20 points to end at 270.30 and Burberry Group PLC (L:BRBY) was down 1.92% or 25.000 points to 1277.000.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1158 to 988 and 449 ended unchanged.

Gold for December delivery was down 0.60% or 7.10 to $1180.40 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.60% or 0.28 to hit $46.66 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.25% or 0.12 to trade at $49.85 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.05% to 1.5444, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.7360.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.24% at 94.69.
