Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the IT, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Turquoise Hill Resources Ltd. (TO:TRQ), which rose 12.50% or 0.310 points to trade at 2.790 at the close. Keyera Corp . (TO:KEY) added 9.52% or 2.70 points to end at 31.06 and HudBay Minerals Inc (TO:HBM) was up 7.49% or 0.63 points to 9.04 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cott Corporation (TO:BCB), which lost 11.52% or 2.37 points to trade at 18.20 in late trade. Lucara Diamond Corp (TO:LUC) declined 8.38% or 0.150 points to end at 1.640 and Altus Group Limited (TO:AIF) shed 6.94% or 1.780 points to 23.850.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 664 to 405 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.59% to 13.46.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.21% or 2.85 to $1330.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.23% or 0.13 to hit $57.09 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.19% or 0.13 to trade at $66.94 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.07% to 0.7617, while CAD/EUR rose 0.10% to 0.6715.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 96.405.
