Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the IT, Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.15% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ag Growth International Inc (TSX:AFN), which rose 15.11% or 3.21 points to trade at 24.45 at the close. Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG) added 9.84% or 1.01 points to end at 11.27 and Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) was up 9.32% or 1.29 points to 15.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included ShawCor Ltd . (TSX:SCL), which lost 9.28% or 0.18 points to trade at 1.76 in late trade. Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE) declined 8.82% or 0.030 points to end at 0.310 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) shed 8.79% or 0.24 points to 2.49.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 565 to 485 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.76% or 12.95 to $1711.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 15.14% or 3.79 to hit $21.24 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 7.48% or 2.10 to trade at $25.98 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.80% to 0.7082, while CAD/EUR fell 0.73% to 0.6521.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.22% at 100.058.
