Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Materials, IT and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO), which rose 10.53% or 1.29 points to trade at 13.54 at the close. Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) added 8.33% or 0.66 points to end at 8.58 and Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd (TSX:KL) was up 7.54% or 4.500 points to 64.215 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NovaGold Resources Inc (TSX:NG), which lost 6.13% or 0.81 points to trade at 12.40 in late trade. Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX:BHC) declined 5.73% or 1.44 points to end at 23.70 and Vermilion Energy Inc . (TSX:VET) shed 4.77% or 0.28 points to 5.59.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 593 to 444 and 95 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.47% or 8.45 to $1818.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.66% or 0.27 to hit $40.89 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.44% or 0.19 to trade at $43.27 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.75% to 0.7405, while CAD/EUR rose 0.21% to 0.6533.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.44% at 96.415.
