Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Financials and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.24% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were SNC-Lavalin Group Inc . (TSX:SNC), which rose 11.05% or 2.09 points to trade at 21.00 at the close. First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TSX:FM) added 9.67% or 0.97 points to end at 11.00 and ARC Resources Ltd . (TSX:ARX) was up 6.47% or 0.42 points to 6.91 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 4.64% or 21.870 points to trade at 449.230 in late trade. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) declined 4.33% or 0.56 points to end at 12.38 and Detour Gold Corporation (TSX:DGC) shed 4.02% or 0.83 points to 19.80.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 670 to 387 and 113 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.34% to 11.69 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.76% or 11.40 to $1496.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.45% or 0.25 to hit $54.84 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 0.38% or 0.23 to trade at $60.15 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.54% to 0.7527, while CAD/EUR fell 0.64% to 0.6796.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 98.198.
