Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Klondex Mines Ltd (TO:KDX), which rose 9.43% or 0.280 points to trade at 3.250 at the close. Exchange Income Corporation (TO:EIF) added 7.17% or 2.330 points to end at 34.820 and Shopify Inc (TO:SHOP) was up 6.00% or 7.500 points to 132.510 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Seven Generations Energy Ltd (TO:VII), which lost 9.15% or 1.67 points to trade at 16.58 in late trade. Canopy Growth Corp (TO:WEED) declined 6.50% or 1.200 points to end at 17.260 and Bonavista Energy Corp (TO:BNP) shed 4.33% or 0.110 points to 2.430.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 679 to 424 and 140 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 9.63% to 12.39.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.07% or 0.92 to $1278.62 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.23% or 0.13 to hit $55.20 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.81% or 0.50 to trade at $61.37 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.08% to 0.7841, while CAD/EUR rose 0.27% to 0.6661.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 93.82.
