Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Healthcare, Clean Technology and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.48%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which rose 9.11% or 2.25 points to trade at 26.96 at the close. Methanex Corporation (TSX:MX) added 8.37% or 2.11 points to end at 27.31 and Aritzia Inc (TSX:ATZ) was up 6.12% or 1.17 points to 20.28 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF), which lost 11.99% or 0.47 points to trade at 3.45 in late trade. Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) declined 5.53% or 0.47 points to end at 8.03 and Crescent Point Energy Corp . (TSX:CPG) shed 5.24% or 0.12 points to 2.17.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 685 to 341 and 110 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.28% or 5.05 to $1795.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $40.65 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.68% or 0.29 to trade at $43.09 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.14% to 0.7387, while CAD/EUR fell 0.48% to 0.6532.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.60% at 96.720.
