Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the IT, Financials and Mining sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TO:GOOS), which rose 6.65% or 3.41 points to trade at 54.68 at the close. BRP Inc. (TO:DOO) added 5.83% or 3.33 points to end at 60.40 and Birchcliff Energy Ltd . (TO:BIR) was up 4.70% or 0.20 points to 4.57 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sierra Wireless Inc . (TO:SW), which lost 6.78% or 1.55 points to trade at 21.31 in late trade. Superior Plus Corp (TO:SPB) declined 6.07% or 0.80 points to end at 12.37 and Descartes Systems Group Inc (TO:DSG) shed 4.30% or 1.74 points to 38.69.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 638 to 441 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.43% to 13.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.38% or 4.90 to $1296.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.82% or 1.24 to hit $66.97 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.10% or 0.08 to trade at $77.64 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.64% to 0.7718, while CAD/EUR fell 0.87% to 0.6601.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.10% at 93.97.
