Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Clean Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were MEG Energy Corp (TO:MEG), which rose 37.86% or 3.04 points to trade at 11.07 at the close. Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE) added 10.46% or 1.38 points to end at 14.57 and Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) was up 9.09% or 0.250 points to 3.000 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Husky Energy Inc . (TO:HSE), which lost 6.48% or 1.47 points to trade at 21.21 in late trade. BlackBerry Ltd (TO:BB) declined 5.58% or 0.82 points to end at 13.88 and Air Canada (TO:AC) shed 5.04% or 1.390 points to 26.210.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 619 to 506 and 119 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.89% to 13.56.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 3.70 to $1192.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.24% or 2.37 to hit $75.62 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.90% or 2.40 to trade at $85.13 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.81% to 0.7807, while CAD/EUR rose 1.05% to 0.6744.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.13% at 94.92.
