Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer Staples, Telecoms and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Alaris Royalty Corp . (TO:AD), which rose 4.15% or 0.900 points to trade at 22.600 at the close. Lucara Diamond Corp (TO:LUC) added 4.09% or 0.160 points to end at 4.070 and Air Canada (TO:AC) was up 3.60% or 0.330 points to 9.490 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pason Systems Inc . (TO:PSI), which lost 7.68% or 1.46 points to trade at 17.55 in late trade. New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) declined 7.17% or 0.520 points to end at 6.730 and Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) shed 4.14% or 0.66 points to 15.29.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 675 to 450 and 147 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.03% to 13.51.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.35% or 4.75 to $1349.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.45% or 0.65 to hit $45.48 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 1.46% or 0.69 to trade at $47.95 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.48% to 0.7749, while CAD/EUR fell 0.32% to 0.6894.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.19% at 94.98.
