Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Staples, Industrials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Yamana Gold Inc (TO:YRI), which rose 6.53% or 0.25 points to trade at 4.08 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TO:FR) added 5.08% or 0.51 points to end at 10.54 and Detour Gold Corporation (TO:DGC) was up 4.99% or 0.59 points to 12.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which lost 5.78% or 1.12 points to trade at 18.25 in late trade. Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW) declined 4.35% or 0.130 points to end at 2.860 and Martinrea International Inc . (TO:MRE) shed 4.04% or 0.57 points to 13.53.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 542 to 539 and 114 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.80% to 13.19.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.97% or 12.10 to $1253.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.31% or 0.23 to hit $74.17 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.52% or 0.40 to trade at $77.70 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.36% to 0.7611, while CAD/EUR rose 0.15% to 0.6524.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 94.31.
