Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Discretionary, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.58%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX:EDR), which rose 10.8400% or 0.57999998 points to trade at 5.92999983 at the close. Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:PAAS) added 8.9400% or 2.68000007 points to end at 32.65999985 and Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) was up 8.6700% or 0.41000000 points to 5.13999987 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Magna International Inc (TSX:MG), which lost 7.2300% or 6.80999994 points to trade at 87.36000061 in late trade. ATS Automation Tooling Systems Inc. (TSX:ATA) declined 6.4300% or 3.16000009 points to end at 45.99000168 and goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) shed 4.9500% or 7.44000006 points to 142.75000000. 

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.0900% to 23.11000061.

As of 3:45 ET, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.1800% or 41.45000076 to $1942.15002441 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 8.7900% or 8.40999985 to hit $104.12999725 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 7.7400% or 7.57999992 to trade at $105.55000305 a barrel.

CAD/USD was down 0.4755% to 0.78495002, while CAD/EUR rose 0.4197% to 0.70574999.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.7400% at 97.40499878.
