Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 1.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Pretium Resources Inc. (TSX:PVG), which rose 11.85% or 1.26 points to trade at 11.89 at the close. Wheaton Precious Metals Corp (TSX:WPM) added 9.36% or 4.95 points to end at 57.84 and Alacer Gold Corp (TSX:ASR) was up 7.42% or 0.53 points to 7.67 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ag Growth International Inc (TSX:AFN), which lost 8.93% or 2.36 points to trade at 24.08 in late trade. Alaris Royalty Corp . (TSX:AD) declined 8.78% or 0.89 points to end at 9.25 and Cineplex Inc . (TSX:CGX) shed 8.77% or 1.46 points to 15.18.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 796 to 268 and 100 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.83% or 14.00 to $1708.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 4.78% or 0.90 to hit $19.74 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.19% or 0.05 to trade at $26.53 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.80% to 0.7111, while CAD/EUR fell 0.95% to 0.6480.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 99.097.
