Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the IT, Consumer Discretionary and Industrials sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.63% to hit a new all time high.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Bird Construction Inc . (TSX:BDT), which rose 11.88% or 3.17 points to trade at 29.86 at the close. Meanwhile, Interfor Corp (TSX:IFP) added 5.07% or 1.00 points to end at 20.74 and Celestica Inc. (TSX:CLS) was up 4.72% or 3.59 points to 79.63 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Brookfield Business (TSX:BBUC) Partners LP (TSX:BBU_u), which fell 4.66% or 1.51 points to trade at 30.89 at the close. Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX:EFR) declined 3.26% or 0.25 points to end at 7.42 and Northwest Healthcare Properties REIT (TSX:NWH_u) was down 3.23% or 0.18 points to 5.40.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 535 to 369 and 115 ended unchanged.
Shares in Bird Construction Inc. (TSX:BDT) rose to all time highs; up 11.88% or 3.17 to 29.86.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 0.09% to 10.72.
Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.37% or 9.65 to $2,625.75 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 0.39% or 0.29 to hit $73.28 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 0.66% or 0.51 to trade at $76.67 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.49% to 0.73, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.07% to 0.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.39% at 102.70.
