Investing.com – Germany equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Consumer & Cyclical, Software and Insurance sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Frankfurt, the DAX fell 1.11%, while the MDAX index declined 0.77%, and the TecDAX index declined 1.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the DAX were Linde AG O.N. (DE:LING), which rose 0.58% or 1.05 points to trade at 181.00 at the close. Prosiebensat 1 Media AG (DE:PSMGn) added 0.24% or 0.070 points to end at 29.000 and Deutsche Post AG NA O.N. (DE:DPWGn) was down 0.05% or 0.020 points to 40.785 in late trade.
Biggest losers included SAP SE (DE:SAPG), which lost 2.08% or 2.020 points to trade at 95.000 in late trade. Henkel & Co KGaA AG Pref (DE:HNKG_p) declined 1.92% or 2.15 points to end at 110.10 and Allianz SE VNA O.N. (DE:ALVG) shed 1.81% or 3.60 points to 195.35.
The top performers on the MDAX were STADA Arzneimittel VNA O.N. (DE:STAGn) which rose 8.36% to 88.100, Hella KGaA Hueck & Co (DE:HLE) which was up 2.99% to settle at 52.36 and Metro AG (DE:MEOG) which gained 1.23% to close at 11.530.
The worst performers were Steinhoff International Holdings NV (DE:SNHG) which was down 34.99% to 0.30 in late trade, Hochtief AG (DE:HOTG) which lost 2.13% to settle at 144.40 and Deutsche Wohnen AG (DE:DWNG) which was down 2.07% to 36.840 at the close.
The top performers on the TecDAX were Dialog Semiconductor (DE:DLGS) which rose 0.83% to 25.360, Adva Optical Networking SE (DE:ADAG) which was up 0.81% to settle at 6.083 and Draegerwerk VZO O.N. (DE:DRWG_p) which gained 0.52% to close at 71.770.
The worst performers were Aixtron SE (DE:AIXGn) which was down 8.94% to 11.965 in late trade, Evotec AG O.N. (DE:EVTG) which lost 3.70% to settle at 13.030 and S&T AG (F:SANT1) which was down 3.50% to 17.299 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 557 to 227 and 37 ended unchanged on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.
The DAX volatility index, which measures the implied volatility of DAX options, was up 10.03% to 13.24.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.36% or 4.50 to $1268.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.61% or 0.35 to hit $57.91 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.36 to trade at $64.16 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.32% to 1.1877, while EUR/GBP rose 0.16% to 0.8858.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.18% at 92.88.
