Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Power and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.45%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.31%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA), which rose 3.13% or 98.75 points to trade at 3259.75 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 1.70% or 151.70 points to end at 9089.75 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) was up 1.58% or 31.90 points to 2051.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 7.57% or 4.85 points to trade at 59.50 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 6.42% or 17.05 points to end at 248.45 and Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) shed 5.20% or 21.90 points to 399.65.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which rose 3.20% to 3261.35, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.46% to settle at 2050.40 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which gained 0.82% to close at 1646.45.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 7.10% to 59.50 in late trade, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which lost 5.07% to settle at 399.45 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 4.51% to 66.75 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1091 to 466 and 59 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1521 fell and 838 advanced, while 187 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 2.53% to 14.5625 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.46% or 6.75 to $1475.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.16% or 0.09 to hit $56.05 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $60.91 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.14% to 71.718, while EUR/INR rose 0.07% to 79.3880.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.800.
