Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Real Estate sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.14%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electron Ltd. (T:8035), which rose 4.86% or 1090.0 points to trade at 23515.0 at the close. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) added 3.32% or 59.0 points to end at 1835.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) was up 2.79% or 150.0 points to 5530.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Suisan Kaisha, Ltd. (T:1332), which lost 4.54% or 30.0 points to trade at 631.0 in late trade. Konami Corp. (T:9766) declined 3.56% or 170.0 points to end at 4610.0 and Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506) shed 2.78% or 60.0 points to 2096.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2253 to 1265 and 253 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 16.21.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for January delivery was up 0.24% or 0.14 to $58.90 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in February rose 0.49% or 0.31 to hit $64.03 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract rose 0.18% or 2.65 to trade at $1477.65 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.08% to 108.62, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 121.03.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 97.062.
