Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Insurance, Banking and Financial Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 added 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (TYO:5232), which rose 18.45% or 630.00 points to trade at 4,045.00 at the close. Subaru Corp (TYO:7270) added 5.42% or 99.50 points to end at 1,936.00 and Mitsubishi Motors Corp. (TYO:7211) was up 4.69% or 15.00 points to 335.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included CyberAgent Inc (TYO:4751), which lost 2.81% or 41.00 points to trade at 1,418.00 in late trade. Nisshinbo Holdings Inc. (TYO:3105) declined 2.45% or 25.00 points to end at 995.00 and Chiyoda Corp. (TYO:6366) shed 2.31% or 11.00 points to 465.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2070 to 1469 and 225 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 9.18% to 22.72.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 1.10% or 1.12 to $103.17 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 1.05% or 1.13 to hit $108.38 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract fell 0.79% or 15.40 to trade at $1,943.60 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.22% to 128.62, while EUR/JPY rose 0.05% to 139.10.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 100.74.
