Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Shipbuilding, Transport and Insurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (T:9501), which rose 8.38% or 28.00 points to trade at 362.00 at the close. Softbank Group Corp. (T:9984) added 5.96% or 254.00 points to end at 4,519.00 and Fujitsu Ltd. (T:6702) was up 5.40% or 895.00 points to 17,470.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JGC Corp. (T:1963), which lost 3.17% or 50.00 points to trade at 1,527.00 in late trade. Credit Saison Co., Ltd. (T:8253) declined 2.48% or 33.00 points to end at 1,298.00 and Comsys Holdings Corp. (T:1721) shed 2.10% or 57.00 points to 2,659.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2412 to 1122 and 242 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.33% to 28.98.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for April delivery was up 1.73% or 1.67 to $98.11 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in May rose 2.59% or 2.59 to hit $102.50 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.56% or 10.80 to trade at $1,918.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.06% to 118.36, while EUR/JPY rose 0.19% to 129.78.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.19% at 98.87.
