Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Shipbuilding and Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.80% to hit a new 5-year high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were The Japan Steel Works, Ltd. (T:5631), which rose 17.52% or 504.0 points to trade at 3380.0 at the close. Chiyoda Corp. (T:6366) added 10.21% or 69.0 points to end at 745.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) was up 8.21% or 460.0 points to 6060.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Maruha Nichiro Corp (T:1333), which lost 7.34% or 255.0 points to trade at 3220.0 in late trade. Sumitomo Osaka Cement Co., Ltd. (T:5232) declined 1.98% or 10.0 points to end at 495.0 and Advantest Corp. (T:6857) shed 1.74% or 46.0 points to 2603.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1963 to 1290 and 240 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.19% to 16.45.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for December delivery was down 0.09% or 0.05 to $57.30 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in January rose 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $64.28 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.41 to trade at $1279.19 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.40% to 114.16, while EUR/JPY rose 0.20% to 132.28.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.25% at 94.86.
