Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Paper & Pulp, Steel and Shipbuilding sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.24%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which rose 4.95% or 18.0 points to trade at 382.0 at the close. Takara Holdings Inc. (T:2531) added 4.79% or 65.0 points to end at 1422.0 and Familymart Ltd (T:8028) was up 3.84% or 390.0 points to 10550.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which lost 9.30% or 12.0 points to trade at 117.0 in late trade. SUMCO Corp. (T:3436) declined 7.76% or 135.0 points to end at 1605.0 and Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) shed 6.72% or 193.0 points to 2678.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2423 to 977 and 194 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.36% to 16.13.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.75% or 0.52 to $69.77 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in November rose 0.23% or 0.18 to hit $79.24 a barrel, while the December Gold Futures contract fell 0.07% or 0.80 to trade at $1201.40 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.15% to 111.47, while EUR/JPY fell 0.19% to 129.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 95.05.
