In a somewhat overlooked discussion, Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) CTO Kevin Scott made some important comments at the Code Conference Wednesday about AI chip availability and its future AI chip plans, which have implications on NVIDIA (NASDAQ:NVDA) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD).
First, Scott noted improved access to NVIDIA AI chips compared to a few months ago.
“Demand was far exceeding the supply of GPU capacity that the whole ecosystem could produce,” Scott said. “That is resolving. It’s still tight, but it’s getting better every week, and we’ve got more good news ahead of us than bad on that front, which is great.”
The CTO also addressed rumors the company is working on proprietary AI-related silicon with AMD, while not confirming anything.
“We’re doing a bunch of interesting work with AMD, and I think they’re making increasingly compelling GPU offerings," Scott said. "I think they are gonna become more important in the marketplace in the coming years."
