Investing.com – Belgium stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Chemicals and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Brussels, the BEL 20 declined 1.35%.
The best performers of the session on the BEL 20 were Elia (BRU:ELI), which fell 0.18% or 0.065 points to trade at 35.910 at the close. Meanwhile, Telenet Group (BRU:TNET) fell 0.25% or 0.12 points to end at 49.52 and Etablissementen Fr Colruyt NV (BRU:COLR) was down 0.56% or 0.23 points to 41.82 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were KBC (BRU:KBC), which fell 1.92% or 1.110 points to trade at 56.850 at the close. Ackermans V.Haaren (BRU:ACKB) declined 1.88% or 2.45 points to end at 127.75 and Solvay SA (BRU:SOLB) was down 1.79% or 1.85 points to 101.75.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Brussels Stock Exchange by 124 to 48 and 5 ended unchanged.
Gold for December delivery was down 1.34% or 15.30 to $1123.00 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.64% or 0.25 to hit $39.06 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.17% or 0.07 to trade at $43.28 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 1.18% to 1.1383, while EUR/GBP rose 0.16% to 0.7354.
The US Dollar Index was up 1.02% at 94.88.
