Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transport, Finance & Investment and Construction sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.86%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707), which rose 4.30% or 23.0 points to trade at 558.0 at the close. Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4502) added 3.99% or 205.0 points to end at 5344.0 and Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) was up 3.92% or 8.6 points to 227.9 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Unitika, Ltd. (T:3103), which lost 6.06% or 6.0 points to trade at 93.0 in late trade. Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd. (T:9531) declined 4.50% or 23.2 points to end at 492.7 and Tokyu Corp. (T:9005) shed 3.29% or 27.0 points to 794.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2253 to 785 and 299 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 5.75% to 16.89.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for May delivery was up 0.24% or 0.12 to $49.63 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in June rose 0.08% or 0.04 to hit $52.58 a barrel, while the April Gold Futures contract fell 0.30% or 3.80 to trade at $1249.90 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 111.02, while EUR/JPY fell 0.19% to 119.30.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 99.95.
