At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 0.60%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture climbed 0.43%, while the Smallcap increased by 0.35%.

- Cogeco (TSX:CGO) Communications: Rose 6.39% or 3.31 points to 55.15
- Capstone Mining (TSX:CS): Climbed 4.27% or 0.42 points to 10.38
Top Losers:
- Richelieu Hardware (TSX:RCH): Fell 1.14% or 0.46 points to 39.77
- Wesdome Gold (TSX:WDO) Mines: Declined 1.70% or 0.23 points to 13.28
- Superior Plus Corp (TSX:SPB): Dropped 0.70% or 0.06 points to 8.57
In Commodities Trading:
- Crude Oil for August delivery rose 0.43 points to 83.05 a barrel.
- September Brent Oil Contract is up by 0.35% or 0.30 drop to 85.70 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for August delivery dropped 9.30 points to 2.412.60 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD cruises at 1.36 with a daily range of 1.3611-1.364.
- EUR/CAD is stable at 1.48.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.24% at 103.877
Main Economic Events:
Today's main economic event in Canada is building permits. The monthly building permits dropped more than expected, after previous month's record high.
