Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Wednesday, with rises in majority of the indices, the most notable ones being the Information Technology, Energy, Industrials and Health Care.
At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index rose 1.04%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture climbed 0.60%, while the Smallcap rose by 0.67%.

- Shopify (TSX:SHOP): Climbed 22.25% or 16.59 points to 91.15
- Suncor Energy (TSX:SU): Rose 6.30% or 3.21 points to 54.18
- iA Financial (TSX:IAG): Increased 3.76% or 3.34 points to 92.14
Top Losers:
- Stella-Jones (TSX:SJ).: Declined 3.84% or 3.50 points to 87.65
- Ero Copper (TSX:ERO): Fell 3.53% or 0.94 points to 25.72
- Capstone Mining (TSX:CS): Dropped 3.80% or 0.32 points to 7.97
In Commodities Trading:
- Crude Oil for September delivery climbed 1.40 points to 74.60 a barrel.
- October Brent Oil Contract rose by 1.74% or 1.33 points to 77.81 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for December delivery rose 7.95 points to 2,439.55 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD is cruising in the 1.37 territory.
- EUR/CAD is trying to stay over 1.50.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 102.992.
Main Economic Events:
Today's main economic event for the Canadian markets is the Ivey PMI numbers, which failed to satisfy the expectations.
