Investing.com — At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.15% to 21,769 points, reversing the day’s earlier losses as miners, heavyweights on the TSX, continued to find strength from gold’s recent record streak.

Wall Street main indices meanwhile traded in the red, as traders await the key U.S. CPI report due on Tuesday, as they seek to gauge further insights into the Fed’s policy path forward.

The reading is expected to show some easing in the pace of inflation. The data for February is expected to show a 0.4% gain in February, while the yearly rate holds steady at 3.1%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BlackBerry (TSX:BB) Ltd (TSX:BB), which rose 10.75% or 0.40 points to trade at 4.12 at the close. BlackBerry shares rallied after the announcement of a partnership with TTTech Auto a vehicle software platform for automated and autonomous driving based in Vienna, Austria. BlackBerry shares have risen in recent days following the prospect of a cash windfall due to a property sale, and as investors look to buy the dip as the stock trades at a near 20 year low.

SilverCrest Metals (TSX:SIL) Inc (TSX:SIL) added 10.17% or 0.76 points to end at 8.23 and New Gold (TSX:NGD) Inc (TSX:NGD) was up 9.85% or 0.20 points to 2.23 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems (TSX:BLDP) Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 10.25% or 0.46 points to trade at 4.03 in late trade. Ballard Power Systems fell to the bottom of the TSX after reporting a widening fourth-quarter loss. Ballard posted net loss of $48.9 million, or 16 cents a share, widened from a loss of $27.6 million, or 12 cents a share this time a year ago. Revenues however rose 128.1% year over year to $46.75 million.
