Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Banking and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 fell 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Berkeley Group Hldgs (LON:BKGH), which rose 3.46% or 93.00 points to trade at 2783.00 at the close. Mondi PLC (LON:MNDI) added 2.76% or 43.00 points to end at 1602.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 1.74% or 32.00 points to 1870.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which lost 2.96% or 19.500 points to trade at 639.000 in late trade. Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY) declined 2.63% or 1.57 points to end at 58.08 and Paddy Power Betfair PLC (LON:PPB) shed 2.45% or 225.000 points to 8960.000.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1146 to 1027 and 434 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was up 1.46% or 19.35 to $1346.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 0.11% or 0.05 to hit $44.39 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.57% or 0.75 to trade at $46.88 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.98% to 1.3434, while EUR/GBP fell 0.17% to 0.8366.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.85% at 94.93.
