Investing.com – U.K. stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Industrial Transportation and Healthcare Equipment & Services sectors led shares higher.
At the close in London, the FTSE 100 rose 0.41%.
The best performers of the session on the FTSE 100 were Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LONDON:RR), which rose 5.94% or 44.50 points to trade at 794.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Carnival PLC (LONDON:CCL) added 5.21% or 176.00 points to end at 3552.00 and ITV PLC (LONDON:ITV) was up 3.35% or 9.10 points to 280.70 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LONDON:LLOY), which fell 3.28% or 2.820 points to trade at 83.200 at the close. Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO) declined 2.33% or 13.50 points to end at 567.00 and InterContinental Hotels Group PLC (LONDON:IHG) was down 1.64% or 45.00 points to 2698.00.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1636 to 859 and 525 ended unchanged.
Shares in Carnival PLC (LONDON:CCL) rose to all time highs; up 5.21% or 176.00 to 3552.00. Shares in Antofagasta PLC (LONDON:ANTO) fell to 5-year lows; losing 2.33% or 13.50 to 567.00. Shares in ITV PLC (LONDON:ITV) rose to all time highs; gaining 3.35% or 9.10 to 280.70.
Gold for December delivery was up 0.57% or 6.20 to $1094.90 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.90% or 0.92 to hit $47.60 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 1.40% or 0.74 to trade at $52.56 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.24% to 1.5639, while EUR/GBP rose 0.69% to 0.7056.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.65% at 96.98.
