Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Construction & Materials, Automobiles & Parts and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Provident Financial PLC (LON:PFG), which rose 3.84% or 19.20 points to trade at 519.40 at the close. Tui AG (LON:TUIT) added 2.65% or 22.40 points to end at 866.60 and Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) was up 2.27% or 3.66 points to 164.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 2.06% or 15.60 points to trade at 740.60 in late trade. Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB) declined 2.02% or 98.00 points to end at 4754.00 and Pearson PLC (LON:PSON) shed 1.89% or 16.20 points to 842.40.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1205 to 872 and 341 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.58% or 7.45 to $1281.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.39% or 0.25 to hit $63.55 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.21 to trade at $71.84 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.14% to 1.2935, while EUR/GBP rose 0.18% to 0.8642.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 97.602.
