Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Tobacco and Electronic & Electrical Equipment sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 5.09% or 65.00 points to trade at 1343.00 at the close. Imperial Brands PLC (LON:IMB) added 3.40% or 103.00 points to end at 3130.00 and BHP Billiton PLC (LON:BLT) was up 1.80% or 24.50 points to 1385.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Babcock International Group PLC (LON:BAB), which lost 6.76% or 51.00 points to trade at 703.50 in late trade. Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) declined 5.76% or 31.00 points to end at 507.50 and Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) shed 4.54% or 50.00 points to 1052.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1108 to 736 and 54 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.55% or 7.06 to $1282.36 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.53% or 0.30 to hit $56.72 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.29% or 0.18 to trade at $62.40 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.3234, while EUR/GBP rose 0.08% to 0.8872.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 93.89.
