Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Industrial Metals & Mining, Industrial Transportation and Electrical sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.36%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which rose 5.13% or 67.00 points to trade at 1373.50 at the close. DS Smith PLC (LON:SMDS) added 2.88% or 10.60 points to end at 378.90 and Hargreaves Lansdown PLC (LON:HRGV) was up 2.87% or 50.50 points to 1808.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 6.38% or 37.20 points to trade at 545.40 in late trade. WM Morrison Supermarkets PLC (LON:MRW) declined 1.41% or 2.75 points to end at 192.80 and Sage Group PLC (LON:SGE) shed 1.34% or 9.80 points to 722.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1401 to 719 and 204 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.32% or 4.75 to $1479.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 4.22% or 2.37 to hit $58.47 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 3.96% or 2.41 to trade at $63.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.74% to 1.3089, while EUR/GBP fell 0.76% to 0.8461.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 97.613.
