Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Banking and Chemicals sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Glencore PLC (LON:GLEN), which rose 5.24% or 20.15 points to trade at 404.55 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.27% or 56.80 points to end at 1796.60 and Mediclinic International PLC (LON:MDCM) was up 2.89% or 17.00 points to 605.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Capita PLC (LON:CPI), which lost 5.07% or 9.15 points to trade at 171.25 in late trade. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:HIK) declined 3.61% or 35.60 points to end at 950.00 and Shire PLC (LON:SHP) shed 2.62% or 80.50 points to 2992.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1034 to 916 and 143 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.08% or 1.10 to $1330.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.19% or 0.12 to hit $61.67 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.06 to trade at $65.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.35% to 1.3947, while EUR/GBP rose 0.15% to 0.8829.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 89.83.
