Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Electronic & Electrical Equipment, Mining and Life Insurance/Assurance sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 gained 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN), which rose 2.64% or 12.40 points to trade at 482.40 at the close. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) added 2.33% or 73.0 points to end at 3200.0 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:SJP) was up 2.33% or 28.00 points to 1230.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:TUIT), which lost 3.56% or 16.10 points to trade at 436.70 in late trade. Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) declined 2.50% or 11.00 points to end at 429.70 and British Land Company PLC (LON:BLND) shed 2.02% or 10.10 points to 490.90.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1146 to 1097 and 217 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.56% or 9.65 to $1732.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.26% or 0.16 to hit $60.80 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.06 to trade at $63.75 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.37% to 1.3973, while EUR/GBP fell 0.01% to 0.8649.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 90.773.
