Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Mobile Telecommunications, Pharmaceuticals & Biotech and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 0.45%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Vodafone Group PLC (LON:VOD), which rose 3.88% or 2.51 points to trade at 67.23 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:ICP) added 2.02% or 33.50 points to end at 1,692.50 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:AZN) was up 1.67% or 170.00 points to 10,356.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES), which lost 5.23% or 30.60 points to trade at 555.00 in late trade. Berkeley Group Holdings PLC (LON:BKGH) declined 3.37% or 164.00 points to end at 4,705.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 2.54% or 14.40 points to 551.60.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 928 to 744 and 471 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.06% or 1.15 to $2,036.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.66% or 1.91 to hit $73.69 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 2.69% or 2.06 to trade at $78.61 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.31% to 1.26, while EUR/GBP rose 0.64% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 102.18.
