Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Mining, Food & Drug Retailers and General Industrial sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.54% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL), which rose 7.58% or 87.50 points to trade at 1242.00 at the close. Tesco PLC (LON:TSCO) added 6.25% or 12.55 points to end at 213.43 and Rio Tinto PLC (LON:RIO) was up 5.44% or 170.500 points to 3303.500 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Direct Line Insurance Group PLC (LON:DLGD), which lost 2.94% or 10.80 points to trade at 357.20 in late trade. Admiral Group PLC (LON:ADML) declined 2.46% or 45.00 points to end at 1783.00 and DCC (LON:DCC) shed 1.93% or 120.0 points to 6085.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1071 to 906 and 411 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold for February delivery was up 0.05% or 0.65 to $1185.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.92% or 0.48 to hit $51.48 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 1.15% or 0.63 to trade at $54.31 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.04% to 1.2165, while EUR/GBP fell 0.14% to 0.8684.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.03% at 101.95.
