Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrial Engineering, Industrial Metals & Mining and Oil & Gas Producers sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were BP PLC (LON:BP), which rose 4.30% or 10.85 points to trade at 262.90 at the close. Anglo American PLC (LON:AAL) added 3.93% or 97.6 points to end at 2581.6 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:ANTO) was up 3.44% or 51.00 points to 1532.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Whitbread PLC (LON:WTB), which lost 2.44% or 80.0 points to trade at 3200.0 in late trade. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) declined 2.14% or 60.00 points to end at 2748.00 and Barratt Developments PLC (LON:BDEV) shed 2.03% or 14.40 points to 695.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1250 to 1064 and 89 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 1.37% or 24.75 to $1837.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.51% or 0.86 to hit $57.71 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 1.02% or 0.61 to trade at $60.17 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.01% to 1.3735, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8770.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.01% at 90.980.
