Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Aerospace & Defense, Banking and Construction & Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Carnival PLC (LON:CCL), which rose 8.20% or 125.5 points to trade at 1656.5 at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR) added 7.32% or 7.95 points to end at 116.50 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) was up 5.78% or 168.0 points to 3074.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included London Stock Exchange Group PLC (LON:LSEG), which lost 6.38% or 518.0 points to trade at 7606.0 in late trade. Avast PLC (LON:AVST) declined 5.83% or 26.00 points to end at 420.00 and Rentokil Initial PLC (LON:RTO) shed 3.33% or 16.10 points to 466.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1449 to 831 and 186 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 1.16% or 19.75 to $1678.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.76% or 1.16 to hit $64.93 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.74% or 1.21 to trade at $68.15 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.04% to 1.3835, while EUR/GBP fell 0.47% to 0.8569.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.38% at 92.340.
