Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Banking, Food & Drug Retailers and Real Estate Investment Trusts REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 rose 1.57% to hit a new 3-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:ICAG), which rose 7.81% or 10.75 points to trade at 148.40 at the close. Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) added 6.42% or 139.00 points to end at 2303.00 and Segro Plc (LON:SGRO) was up 6.29% or 54.80 points to 926.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC (LON:RR), which lost 6.40% or 6.85 points to trade at 100.15 in late trade. Smiths Group PLC (LON:SMIN) declined 3.92% or 60.50 points to end at 1481.50 and Meggitt PLC (LON:MGGT) shed 3.32% or 13.32 points to 387.48.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1473 to 817 and 67 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.70% or 13.20 to $1863.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.30% or 0.95 to hit $42.31 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.09% or 0.91 to trade at $44.52 a barrel.
GBP/USD was down 0.55% to 1.3198, while EUR/GBP rose 0.11% to 0.8909.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.43% at 93.132.
