Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil Equipment Services & Distribution, Life Insurance/Assurance and Industrial Transportation sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 added 1.84% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Lloyds Banking Group PLC (LON:LLOY), which rose 8.88% or 2.71 points to trade at 33.24 at the close. Informa PLC (LON:INF) added 8.49% or 35.50 points to end at 453.60 and Carnival PLC (LON:CCL) was up 8.02% or 74.0 points to 996.4 in late trade.
Biggest losers included EasyJet PLC (LON:EZJ), which lost 2.85% or 16.80 points to trade at 572.20 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.03% or 14.60 points to end at 704.20 and Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC (LON:RB) shed 1.92% or 126.0 points to 6454.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1495 to 713 and 123 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.20% or 3.40 to $1720.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.41% or 0.18 to hit $12.96 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.17% or 0.27 to trade at $22.80 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.07% to 1.2437, while EUR/GBP fell 0.02% to 0.8709.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.14% at 99.953.
