Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Tobacco, Household Goods & Home Construction and Gas, Water & Multiutilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 lost 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Ashtead Group PLC (LON:AHT), which rose 4.45% or 75.00 points to trade at 1759.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:BARC) added 2.52% or 4.70 points to end at 191.35 and Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC (LON:RBS) was up 2.42% or 5.90 points to 249.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Randgold Resources Ltd (LON:RRS), which lost 2.94% or 235.00 points to trade at 7765.00 in late trade. Fresnillo PLC (LON:FRES) declined 2.30% or 37.00 points to end at 1570.00 and Persimmon PLC (LON:PSN) shed 2.04% or 52.00 points to 2503.00.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 991 to 976 and 423 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.36% or 4.86 to $1330.84 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.33% or 0.16 to hit $48.23 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.35 to trade at $54.19 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.82% to 1.3272, while EUR/GBP fell 0.73% to 0.9015.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 91.89.
